This survey covers utilities whose rates the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) sets. It leaves out 72 municipal and 42 cooperative electric providers that are outside IURC rate jurisdiction. Their rates are set locally by city councils or co-op boards, so that is where to speak up about them.

Cases the consumer advocate is tracking

The Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) is the state agency that represents consumers in cases before the IURC. These are its key-case pages, newest update first. The quoted text is the OUCC’s own summary. Open the page for the latest, and use the cause number to read every filing in the IURC portal.

Put your comment on the record

  1. Send it in writing. The OUCC asks for written comments by its online form, by fax to 317-232-5923, or by mail to Consumer Services Staff, Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor, 115 W. Washington St., Suite 1500 South, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
  2. Include the basics: your full name, city and ZIP, the utility’s name, and the IURC cause number if you know it. Say whether you are a customer and whether you speak for yourself, a family, a business or an organization.
  3. Send it early. The OUCC needs comments at least one week before its testimony deadline in the case.
  4. It becomes public. Comments are filed in the official case record and may be shared under the public records law. Leave out account numbers and other sensitive details.
