Vigo early voting up 13% over 2022
Four more vote centers open Tuesday as in-person turnout runs ahead of the last midterm. Early voting ends at noon Monday, Nov. 2.
Written by Indiana · District 8October 27, 2026In-person early voting in Vigo County is up 13% over the 2022 midterm general election, according to Jamie Norton, Vigo County clerk-elect.
"That's a pretty good increase," Norton told the Tribune-Star on Monday. "I think for a non-presidential year, we're doing very well."
A week earlier, election officials put the increase at 9%.
The numbers
Through Monday, Oct. 26, Vigo County voters had cast 7,463 ballots at vote centers and returned 899 mail-in ballots, for 8,362 early votes in all, according to figures from the Vigo County Clerk's Office posted on the county's Every Vote site.
Monday's 716 in-person votes were the most of any day so far. Daily in-person totals had ranged from 307 on the first day, Oct. 6, to 603 on Oct. 19.
As of Oct. 19, more than 4,000 ballots had been cast, a 9% increase over 2022, WTHI reported. "We are starting to see an uptick," Chief Deputy Clerk Elizabeth Stiverson told the station.
Norton said interest is high in local races. "I really think a lot of people are interested in this election go-around," she said. "We have a lot of county seats up for election and a lot of attention being brought to the county elections."
In the 2024 general election, 68% of Vigo County voters cast absentee ballots, a category that includes in-person early voting, mail-in voting and voting through a traveling board, the Tribune-Star reported, citing the Indiana Election Division.

Bring a photo ID
Indiana law requires voters to show a photo ID. It must show your photo and your name, have an expiration date, and be issued by the State of Indiana or the U.S. government. It must be current or have expired after the Nov. 5, 2024, general election. An Indiana driver's license, Indiana photo ID card, military ID or U.S. passport usually works. Student IDs from colleges can no longer be used as of July 1, 2025.
Voters without an acceptable ID can cast a provisional ballot. They then have until noon 10 days after the election to bring the documents to the county election board, or to claim an exemption.
Voters can check their registration and polling information at indianavoters.in.gov.
Early voting runs through Saturday at six locations and ends at noon Monday at the Annex. On Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, the polls are open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
