A public notice said Vigo County Commissioners would discuss a proposed zoning amendment for battery energy storage systems at 9 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the Vigo County Annex. The commissioners' posted agenda for that meeting does not list the amendment.

The agenda's omission leaves the timing of the discussion uncertain. It does not establish that the discussion has been cancelled or rescheduled.

The proposal, Docket #74, General Ordinance #3-26, is titled "An Amendment To The Unified Zoning Ordinance Of Vigo County, Indiana To Add Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) As A Special Exception." The measure would change the text of the ordinance. It is not an application for a particular project or site.

The Area Plan Commission listed the amendment on the agenda for its Nov. 4 public hearing at the Vigo County Annex, 127 Oak Street in Terre Haute.

Battery energy storage systems charge with electricity from the power grid or another source and discharge it when it is needed, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The agency says such systems help balance electricity supply and demand.

Copies of the file may be examined at the Area Planning Department in the Vigo County Annex, 159 Oak Street, according to the notice.
